Participants in the Pacific Teak Reforestation Project must know three crucial facts about Costa Rica. First: Costa Rica is a democratic republic with a stable government. Second: it is the most stable economy in Central America. Third: its physical climate and geography are perfectly suited to growing Teak – so much so that Teak grown in Costa Rica grows more rapidly and stronger than Teak grown in Southeast Asia.
Costa Rica’s largest trading partner is the United States followed by the European Union. As many as 35,000 American private citizens, mostly retirees, reside in the country.
